The 2.6 Challenge

We are calling on supporters to join The 2.6 Challenge to save UK charities so that we can continue to support people in the local community through housing, health and wellbeing, and family work programmes.

Like so many charities across the county, we have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the majority of our community facilities temporarily closed and summer fundraising events on hold, our charity’s income will be significantly reduced.

Help is needed now more than ever before!  Here’s how you can get involved:

STEP 1 – DECIDE ON A CHALLENGE

The challenge is to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26, and fundraise or donate via our Virgin Money Giving page: https://bit.ly/ymcatg-26challenge

Taking on the 2.6 Challenge can be something as simple as:

            • Walking, running or cycling 2.6km or miles
            • Doing 26 press-ups or 26 keepie uppies
            • Taking your dog for a 2.6 mile walk
            • 26 minutes or 26 laps around the garden
            • A 2.6 minute plank challenge
            • Challenging friends and family to a live 26 song dance off
            • Baking 26 cookies or fairy cakes

The list is endless – and if you’re stuck for ideas you’re welcome to join in with our live Marathon 26 Circuit class with Pat this coming Sunday (26 April) at 10am!  All abilities and ages are welcome (see Zoom login details below).

There will be PRIZES for the top fundraiser and the most creative challenge!

STEP 2 – DONATE OR FUNDRAISE ON OUR BEHALF

Head to our Virgin Money Giving page: https://bit.ly/ymcatg-26challenge to donate whatever you can afford ­to YMCA Thames Gateway, or to set up a fundraising page. It can be a sponsored activity, or a donation – £2.60 or £26 – whatever is affordable – it all adds up and will make a world of difference to the people we support through housing, health and wellbeing programmes, and family work.

STEP 3 – NOMINATE A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER

Ask all your friends and family to sponsor you and challenge them to do their own 2.6 Challenge!

STEP 4 – SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE

4. Share a photo or video of your challenge on social media with #TwoPointSixChallenge and #ymcatg.

The campaign, The 2.6 Challenge, will launch on Sunday, 26 April 2020 – what should have been the date of the fortieth London Marathon – and will last for a week. The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing, and remember to stay local.
