Kamal (pseudonym), a young adult, moved into YMCA accommodation after experiencing homelessness following a period of housing instability.
He had previously spent time in temporary accommodation after arriving in the UK, but when this came to an end, he experienced a period of street homelessness before being referred to YMCA TGG.
When Kamal arrived, his main goals were to secure stable accommodation, improve his employment prospects and receive support to develop his CV. From the outset, he engaged positively with the support process and showed strong motivation to improve his situation.
Kamal shared that he had started studying a professional accounting qualification prior to coming to the UK, but had been unable to complete it due to disruption in his circumstances. He remained determined to continue his studies and build a professional career.
During his time at the YMCA, Kamal adapted well to the structure of supported accommodation. He established a routine, managed his daily living independently, and maintained a good standard of personal wellbeing. He engaged consistently with his support worker and attended support sessions as planned.
With support from staff, Kamal registered with a GP and accessed health services, including support for his mental wellbeing. He spoke openly about the challenges he had faced and responded positively to guidance, showing resilience and a proactive approach to his recovery.
Although his stay was relatively short, Kamal made strong progress towards his goals. With support, he explored education opportunities and successfully secured a place at university to continue his studies.
After moving on, Kamal shared his appreciation for the support he received:
