Throughout every department of YMCA Thames Gateway, we take an active, tailored approach to volunteering.
We like to establish what our volunteers like doing, what they are good at and who they would like to help.
If you are between jobs and want to keep busy in the meantime, perhaps you want to add some valuable work experience to your CV or simply have some spare time and would like to help others, we would like to hear from you.
Many volunteers come to us with very little idea of how diverse we are, however, we will do our best to find an option that suits you.
The feedback our volunteers give speaks for itself, really: Purpose, personal fulfilment, experience, sense of giving, skills development, training, new friends, learning, understanding and giving back to the community are just some of the things volunteers get back from offering a some of their time and expertise.
Volunteer roles
Whatever the reason, our volunteers are part of a valued team who work across most of our departments. Volunteer roles include:
- Gym Instructors
- Cafe Assistants
- Administrators
- Accountants
- Youth Workers
- Play Workers
- Receptionists
- Gardeners
- Chaplains
- Trustees
The above list is not exhaustive – if you have skills or experience in other fields and would like to volunteer, get in touch.
Volunteers receive induction training and undergo an enhanced DBS check. Travel expenses are reimbursed and meals are provided while on duty. After a qualifying period and depending on hours worked, volunteers may also use the gym free of charge.
