7 December 2022

We have recently been granted funding for warm spaces at our community hubs in Romford, Dartford and West Kent. The warm space at YMCA Romford launched this week (Monday, 5 December 2022) and another launches at the TN2 Community Centre in Tunbridge Wells next week (Thursday, 15 December).  Both spaces are open to local residents over the winter period.

Georgie Squires, Head of Customer Experience and Impact at YMCATGG helped to co-ordinate the set up of the warm space at YMCA Romford.  She said “The past two years have been incredibly challenging and with rising inflation and cuts to universal credit, this continues to be a difficult time for so many.

“Like so many other charities, we’ve had to adapt to meet the needs of our communities. We want to do everything we can to support our local community and hope that our warm spaces will provide some respite to anyone struggling to heat their home this winter.

Everyone is welcome and on a drop-in basis. There will be free tea, coffee, biscuits and soup. Magazines, books & games will also be available as well as a space for anyone who wants to simply relax and enjoy some quiet time.”

The warm spaces will be open as follows:

YMCA Romford will be open on a Monday & Friday from 10am – 2pm (including Boxing Day)

West Kent sessions will initially run on 15 & 16 December and will resume after the Christmas period on a Thursday & Friday from 5 January.
